At Little Sunshine Family Child Care, we believe that guidance and discipline are about teaching, not punishing. Our goal is to help children from birth to age 8 develop self-control, problem-solving skills, and respect for themselves and others. We create a nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued, and understood.
Positive Redirection
We use positive redirection as a key strategy to guide behavior. When challenges arise, we gently steer children toward appropriate choices by offering alternatives and focusing on what they can do rather than what they cannot. For example, if a child is throwing blocks, we might say, “Let’s build a tall tower together,” or “Blocks are for building. Let’s see how high we can make it!” This approach helps children learn acceptable ways to express their energy, curiosity, and emotions.

The Peace Table
Another important tool in our program is the Peace Table. This is a special space where children are invited to go when they feel upset, need a break, or want to work out a conflict with a peer. With gentle guidance, children learn to express their feelings using words, listen to others, and find peaceful solutions. The Peace Table encourages reflection, empathy, and responsibility, helping children build lifelong social-emotional skills.
Our Commitment
We understand that every child is unique, and we approach discipline with patience, consistency, and care. Our team partners with families to support each child’s growth and development in a positive, respectful manner. Together, we help children shine as confident, kind, and capable learners.
